Case Study- Directing a lifestyle shoot

I’ve been meaning to tell this story for some time! Sometimes being a lifestyle photographer gets in the way.

An agency I’ve worked with in the past contacted me for a larger project. Their client wanted to create lifestyle images of their senior companions helping seniors at home for their marketing and collateral. The client wanted to use talent for this project, to avoid having to replace images should employees leave. Because of this, we also needed to scout and find locations for the various scenarios.

I quickly brought on producer Carleen Martin, and had a creative call with the client. Once we found out the direction the client wanted to go, Carleen got to work sourcing potential home locations and other locations for the photoshoot. Carleen and I scouted the locations and made our recommendations. Carleen and her assistant also cast people for the shoot, providing images of talent for the client to select from.

This project was a hybrid shoot, so we brought in Tyler Davis as the DP for the video portion. Tyler and his gaffer worked in tandem with me, and we would leapfrog various scenarios.

The shoot was a success! On the shoot day, Carleen and her assistant kept models moving into the makeup chair. Our stylist Jess Hammer propped each location to look lived in, yet polished. Our team of assistants, a PA, and a digital tech kept things moving and clients approving.

A big part of being a lifestyle photographer is being able to work with a team. This was a fantastic team and I think we created some good work! Our team included:
